Best Thrift Stores In Mississauga, ON, Canada
Mississauga, a bustling city in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), is a haven for thrift store enthusiasts. If you love the thrill of discovering hidden gems and rare vintage items or are planning a road trip through or to Mississauga, ON, the intersection of Dixie and Dundas Street East is your go-to destination. In this post, I’ll highlight some of the best thrift stores to hit up in Mississauga, where you can find unique treasures and enjoy the hunt of finding treasure.
If you want to make a day of it and are ready and hydrated, I’d suggest Dundas St E, where 5 of the major thrift stores are located a quick drive from each other:
1. Goodwill: 1224 Dundas Street East, Mississauga, ON
Goodwill is a well-known name in the world of thrift stores, and the Mississauga location at 1224 Dundas Street East is no exception. This store is a treasure trove of vintage clothing, accessories, and home decor items. Whether you’re looking for a retro outfit or unique home accents, including furniture, Goodwill has something for everyone.
This goodwill accepts donations but doesn’t give you coupons in return. It also does not have a half-off colour; however, it does have promotions that they’d email you about if you’re a member. Remember, there is no tax!
I’ve found some amazing vintage and unique items here, like:
2. Salvation Army Thrift Store: 1458 Dundas Street East, Mississauga, ON
Just a short walk/drive from Goodwill, you’ll find the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 1458 Dundas Street East. This store is renowned for its wide selection of clothing, books, and household items. The Salvation Army Thrift Store is also a great place to find vintage furniture pieces at affordable prices.
They accept donations and give you a 20% coupon that actually has value because there isn’t a cap on the amount, unlike Value Village, where your 10% only goes up to $10. They’ll send you promotional emails when clothing or other items are 50% off. And remember, there is no tax!
You’ll find stuff like this there:
3. Value Village: 1475 Dundas Street East, Mississauga
Value Village is another popular thrift store located at 1475 Dundas Street East. Known for its vast inventory and organized layout, Value Village offers an excellent shopping experience. From vintage clothing to quirky collectibles, you’re bound to find something unique at this store.
Value Village is a for-profit company, and that shows in its prices. They accept donations “on behalf” of their not-for-profit partner – Diabetes Canada. This means they “buy” the donated items from their not-for-profit partner and then resell them. FYI, big companies can write off the amounts they ‘donate’ to charities and get a tax credit.
When you donate to Value Village, they give you a coupon for 10% off a purchase of $50 and over – that coupon has a limit of $10 dollars, so past $100, you’re not getting 10% off. This basically saves you part of the 13% tax you have to pay since they are a for-profit company.
Value Village (or savers) has a membership where you earn points that convert to dollars but very, very slowly. They also send you promotional emails. Because they are popular, most of the time, they have more variety than Salvation Army or Goodwill. This is something I found at Value Village:
4. Mission: 3130 Dixie Road, Mississauga, ON
A bit further down the road, at 3130 Dixie Road, you’ll discover Mission. This thrift store is a gem for anyone looking for high-quality vintage items at reasonable prices. Mission is especially known for its selection of vintage furniture and collectibles like this copper teapot:
There is no tax, and it seems that they clean their items before they hit the shelves, which is rare with thrift stores.
5. Talize Thrift Store: 3100 Dixie Road, Mississauga, ON
Located next to Mission, at 3100 Dixie Road, Talize Thrift Store is a must-visit for any thrifting enthusiast. Talize offers a curated collection of vintage and contemporary items, making it a favourite among fashion lovers and collectors alike. The store’s spacious layout and friendly staff add to the overall shopping experience.
Talize is mostly clothing – well organized and inviting. There are some home decor shelves, but they are not too intense.
Why Visit These Thrift Stores?
These are the best thrift stores in Mississauga because they are in the same neighbourhood, which is convenient, and secondly, they have quite a lot of vintage items because of the sheer number of donations this area gets. Thrift stores offer more than just shopping; they provide an adventure where you can uncover rare finds and unique pieces. Each store has its charm and specialty, ensuring that every visit brings something new and exciting. Plus, shopping at thrift stores is an eco-friendly choice that supports sustainable fashion and reduces waste.
